b. 1:25b Amen. aMEN.
NOTE: It is interesting that both James and Jude are half-brothers of Jesus. In the beginning they did not believe their older brother was the long-looked-for Messiah. Mary knew, and Joseph knew. The angelic visitation and the fulfillment of his words were sufficient proof. Yet Mary did not understand this strange Son of hers, and at His Bar Mitzvah at 12, she still could not comprehend Him. At the beginning of His 3 year ministry, His family gathered in unbelief outside one of His meetings, but He refused to come out to them, but rather claimed that His 12 disciples were his father, mother, brothers and sisters, because they believed and did the will of His Father.
But following His death and resurrection, at least Mary, Jamesand Jude came aboard in full faith.James became Apostolic pastor of the church of Jerusalem and author of his 5-chapter letter. And Jude became author of this one-chapter letter named after him.
Both brothers, like all other Bible writers, wrote their two NT books under the direct guidance of the Holy Spirit (2 Peter 1:21 and 1 Corinthians 14:37). The Lord Jesus by the Spirit directly guided His 2 brothers in the writing of their epistles. And, according to the discovery of Ivan Panin, their letters have the unusual mathematical trademark in the Numerical Greek Text, as all other books of both the NT Greek and OT Hebrew. No otherreligious books have this phenomenon and trademark, including the Koran.
We would be missing much, if this letter of Jude to the Church were missing from the Canon of Scripture. His reference to Enoch and the second coming of the Lord Jesus, His brother after the flesh through Mary, would be a significant omission.
There is a book by Enoch, but it is not canonical. I have personally read it, and find it interesting, but like the Apocryphal books, can understand why the Holy Spirit did not lead it to be one of our 66 books of the Canon.
Yet that in no wise is reason that this unusual quotation from that book should not appear here under Jude's leading in verses 14 & 15. Note too that Jesus is going to share His judgment-role on the ungodly with us His saints. Paul acknowledges this also, and exhorts Christians to judge one another when we have problems, and notresort to secular courts, which is a shame to believers.
In verses 20 & 21, Jude provides a most valuable insight in praying in the Holy Spirit. Romans 8:26-27 is a parallel passage at this point, and is a valuable complementation. “Rees Howells, Intercessor” by Norman P. Grubb, illustrates how a believer can be a channel for the Holy Spirit's prayers through us, not just our own selfish prayers for our own interests. See Revelation 4:11 as a confirmation. We are created because of God's will, and His purpose is that we be brought into the image of His Son! And as to His Son - not oneword He spoke in prayer or discourse - and not one deed He performed - but was directed by His Father. Thisis the goal to which God is processing us. How greata help and blessing then is the book of Jude to us to aid us in God's purpose for us. J.A.W.
